Welcome to the website of the Ottawa Branch of the FSNA, now operating as the National Association of Federal Retirees.  As of the end of 2012 we have about 31,000 members. The Ottawa Branch serves the area of the City of Ottawa.  We are a non-profit organization whose main mission is to advocate measures beneficial to retirees and future retirees of the Public Service of Canada, the Canadian Forces, the RCMP and federally appointed judges; to oppose measures inimical to them; and to participate in the development of social policies and programs for seniors.

FAMILY CAREGIVER AMOUNT (FCA)

Introduced in the 2011 federal budget, the FCA is a 15% non-refundable tax credit on an amount of $2,000 that provides tax relief for caregivers of dependant relatives who have a mental or physical impairment.

 HEALTHY HOMES RENOVATION TAX CREDIT

 The Ontario Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit is a permanent, refundable personal income tax credit available for seniors (65 years and older) in Ontario and for family members who live with them. It is to help with the cost of improving safety and accessibility in the home. Up to $10,000 of eligible home improvements can be claimed for a tax credit of 15% to a maximum of $1500 every year, regardless of income.

 CITY OF OTTAWA OLDER ADULT PLAN

 AGE FRIENDLY OTTAWA

On October 24, 2012, the City of Ottawa approved the Older Adult Plan, which outlines 74 concrete actions to be completed by the end of 2014.  In addition, the World Health Organization recently designated Ottawa as a member of its Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, recognizing the planning efforts of the City of Ottawa and the Council on Aging of Ottawa.  For more information on the Older Adult Plan or the Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.  FINDING YOUR WAY WANDERING PREVENTION PROGRAM

 

With support from the province, the Alzheimer Society of Ontario is launching the new Finding Your Way Wandering Prevention Program. The first of its kind in Canada, the program will raise awareness of risks for people with dementia and enhance the community response in case they go missing. Read more....
